When it comes to Texan anglers, nothing prevents them from getting their catch.

Houston native Thomas Mezquiti channeled this motto by diving in and grabbing a trout with his bare hands after the fish detached from its rod while fishing the coast of South Padre Island last weekend. The speckled trout fought, but ultimately was no match for this Texan father.

His wife and 16-year-old filmed the whole thing and made a video of his impressive catch – along with his celebratory shimmy – on TikTok

The one-minute clip received nearly 200,000 views and more than 12,000 likes on the popular video-sharing app (it’s the video that will cheer up your Monday). The avid fisherman told MySA.com that he couldn’t believe the love he was getting from the video.

The 40-year-old said the catch, which was a 25-inch trout weighing 5.5 pounds, was worth it.

“We were just being silly,” he said.
