Over the years the simple definition of the word has gone through various slang terms and now a new one seems to have emerged.
‘Sizing up’ explored meaning on TikTok
A TikTok video has been circulating on the internet in the past few days claiming to know the real meaning of sizing. The video defines the word taking into account what is in the Urban Dictionary.

In fact, several people also got in touch on social media saying that the definition was only made by one of the social media users. If you take a close look at the Urban Dictionary website, you will find that the definition was edited on July 16, 2021 by a user named “alexjones420”.
It is unclear who the person behind this username is. However, given the modification date, it is clear that the edit was made around the same time as the TikTok viral video. In reality, that was not the actual definition on the website.

According to vocabulary, the real meaning of appraising is “to evaluate or critically evaluate something or someone”.
TikTok users were amazed at the meaning shared on the platform. Some even responded to it. One user wrote: “I just learned what ‘appraising someone’ means, that I’m going to cry.”
Another added, “I just figured out what sizing means. I hate boys. “” I just found out what sizing means. Men are so weird. “

Why you shouldn’t believe the Urban Dictionary
While the name might convince you that this is an important website with definitions, in reality Urban Dictionary is a crowdsourced dictionary. In short, anyone can edit the website and put in any definition they want.
The website was first created in 1999 by Aaron Peckham. After that, several people used the website to share the meaning of words. However, it also resulted in several people abusing the website. The definition of sizing up goes well with why the website eventually lost credibility.
