Viral TikTok hits you might want to stream

The fact that TikTok is the current trendsetter is undisputed – from the popularization of recipes like Emily Mariko’s salmon bowl or Gigi Hadid’s pasta to dancers like Charli D’Amelio and Addison Rae who catapult to become stars.

But when it’s not about creating new mega influencers or straining your grocery budget, TikTok is changing the music landscape. And regardless of whether you think the app has any value in the entertainment world, there are some certified bangers that have come to fruition.

Whether it’s old classics or top 40 hits that were used to death in viral meme trends, or creations by little artists that got famous on the app, these are the best of the best.

“Just for me” by PinkPantheress

PinkPantheress’ Just for Me has been used over 2 million times on the app, including in videos by celebrities like Madison Beer and TikTok stars like Bella Poarch, both of whom have millions of followers on the app.

While “Just for Me” doesn’t indicate a specific trend, the song went viral this summer and the English singer’s bedroom-pop-hyper-pop hybrid is a catchy tune that shows real talent and excellent production.

“Heat Waves” by Glass Animals

TikTok catapulted Glass Animals to their greatest success, even as an already incredibly successful group. “Heat Waves”, their most commercially successful song, made the Top 100 charts in Great Britain, Ireland and the USA because of its virality, but also because it is a really good song.

“Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat (feat. SZA)

Doja Cat is basically the undisputed queen of TikTok-backed hits, with a whopping 5 songs on this playlist – and that’s a limited number. “Kiss Me More” dominates alongside other hits like “Woman” and “Ain’t Sh * t” both meme and dance trends in the app and is used by a wide variety of groups.

And while the snippets of this trend are certainly catchy, the entire song is the perfect pop-rap track, as are many of Doja Cats’. Everyone greets the new queen of TikTok.

“Good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo

“SOUR” was the undisputed Sad Girl album of this spring and summer – whether you were too “brutal” in your own car or screaming for a “driver’s license”, it was inevitable.

And that goes for TikTok too, considering that several songs on the album went viral on the app. But “a good 4 u” is the undisputed queen. Used 2.5 million times on TikTok, the Paramore-esque flashback and catchiness made it the perfect song of the summer on the app.

“Meet me at our place” by THE ANXIETY (WILLOW & Tyler Cole)

While the megaviral version of “Meet Me At Our Spot” on TikTok is not the album recording and only a live version is available on YouTube, both versions are certainly incredibly audible on their own.

WILLOW’s singing, especially the live version, is a high point and the way she and Cole sing together is also fascinating. Add in a catchy beat and relatable lyrics that revolve around fear and it’s no wonder the duo have a hit on their hands.

“Into The Thick of It” by the Backyardigans

Yes, really. Would it be a TikTok list with no meme song? This song throws all the way back to a 2005 cast album from the Nickelodeon cartoon “The Backyardigans,” in which the remarkably musical little creatures on the show create a pretty catchy tune about trekking through the jungle. Listen to it once and you won’t be able to stop – rest in peace on the integrity of Spotify Wrapped everywhere.

“Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish

What does it say about the state of music today that I heard the (then) new song by the megastar and multiple Grammy-winning artist Eilish on TikTok before I heard it on the radio or on a streaming platform?

To me, it says that TikTok is a force to be reckoned with in the music world – and that Eilish’s song, which balances a slow, melodic half with a dramatically rising dramatic second half – is perfect viral fodder with thousands and thousands of videos underneath different cuts and cuts of the song on TikTok.

“Immune” by Jensen McRae

Maybe this one is a bit of a slip up because he shared his virality on TikTok and Twitter, but “Immune” is too good not to share. What started as a parody video of Phoebe Bridgers, wondering what the artist’s style would sound like in a song about the vaccine, became a hit with Jensen Mcrae, who has garnered a huge following on TikTok for her covers and clippings of her original Songs, all posted incredible and with remarkable consistency.

“Immune” is arguably the only good pandemic-themed song, and the Bridger vibe with the ironic lyrics is worth listening to.
