Viral TikTok ‘hack’ totally free Sonic sparks debate about canceled DoorDash orders: ‘Please do not do that’

A TikTok user sparked an online debate after posting a video explaining how to get free food from Sonic.

In the video, TikTok user @ bmtx00 wrote, “This is your sign to finish off, head over to Sonic and ask about any free canceled orders from Door Dash.”

The clip begins with people walking to the Sonic Drive-Thru and an employee handing food through the window. Then the video is cut into a photo of paper bags with names written on them, including Nicole and Preston.

User @ bmtx00 has partially subtitled the video: “Sorry Nicole, Kelli, Preston and ‘Manuole’ from Fort Worth.”

In the comments, one person asked what @ bmtx00 received and they replied, “3 Chili Cheese Fries, 1 Chili Cheese Tot, 3 Chili Cheese Coneys, 4 Cheese Stick Orders, Regular Tots and Fries, 6 Different Burgers, Cherry Limeade. “

User @ bmtx00 also stated in the comments that she “definitely” tipped the cashier.

Since the video was released earlier this week, it has had more than 466,100 views on Tuesday morning.

Commentators on the clip disagreed on whether or not @ bmtx00’s “hack” was a good idea. Some people supported the TikTok user and others commented how the food could be bad by the time it closes.

“Why didn’t I do that? [a] a long time ago !!!!! “wrote one person.

Another person said, “Genius !!!! Why haven’t I [think] of this???”

“Please don’t do this,” wrote another person who claimed to be a Sonic employee. “We probably won’t have it, and if we do, it’s old.”

“As a sonic worker you don’t do that,” wrote someone else. “It sits there for hours and at the end of the night it’s so gross.”

The video also sparked a debate over whether the “hack” is even allowed, with many reported Sonic employees claiming that issuing canceled orders was against policy.

“Whoever gave these orders broke all the rules,” wrote one person.

“Yes, they can’t,” wrote another commentator. “I worked there for two years, we are not allowed to do that.”

“You’re just very lucky,” said someone else. “Nine out of 10 fast food restaurants either throw it away or give it to a worker. I have no idea why this Sonic was sitting with old food. “

However, at least one alleged Sonic employee said its location allows employees to distribute canceled orders.

“I was a manager there, so yes, that’s true,” commented one person.

Other commentators who claimed to be Sonic employees said canceled orders go to the staff instead.

One person who described himself as a “former Sonic manager” wrote in part: “They don’t keep orders. They give them to the employees” [they’re] cancelled.”

“I’m a manager at Sonic and whatever [DoorDash] is canceled, will definitely be eaten by the staff, “wrote another person.

A Sonic spokesman emailed Fox News that it is against company policy to issue canceled DoorDash orders.

“Giving away prepared orders that have been canceled on DoorDash is not Sonic’s policy,” said the spokesman. “The franchise location shown in the TikTok video is taking corrective action to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
