US Senate vs Fb

Frances Haugen, the former Facebook employee who leaked evidence of the social media giant’s discriminatory practices to the Wall Street Journal [1], testified before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transport on October 5, 2021.

The hearing highlighted two problem areas that led to a split along party lines:

First, the Democrats criticized the spread and persistence of fakes news, while the Republicans railed against the censorship of dissident accounts.

Second, Democrats are considering antitrust measures (splitting social media into multiple units) while Republicans are considering legislation to use artificial intelligence.

However, no one seems confused by the disproportionate political power that Facebook wields [2].
