US Military ousts junior officer for joking about Holocaust on TikTok
JTA – The US Army removes an officer who made a Holocaust joke on TikTok last year.
Nathan Freihofer, a second lieutenant, has millions of followers on TikTok, the video social media platform. In August Freihofer published a joke about the Holocaust and then said to his followers, “If you are offended, get the shit out because it’s a joke.”
Freihofer was suspended from his management duties after the video was published, which he had since deleted.

This week, Lieutenant General Michael “Erik” Kurilla, the commander of the XVIII. Army Airborne Corps stated that Freihofer’s statement “is inconsistent with the values of Army service and is inappropriate for anyone holding a leadership position over American soldiers,” Col. Joseph Buccino, an Army spokesman, according to the Washington Post. “As a result, the corps commander initiated the process of removing Freihofer from the army last month.”
The decision is made a week after a pro-Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol.
In the months surrounding the election and presidential change, social media companies like Facebook, Twitter and TikTok took steps to combat bigoted posts and disinformation.
