Did TikTok’s new text-to-speech change ruin you? Don’t sweat, we have a solution.

First, some background information: In North America, TikTok’s text-to-speech feature is a computer-automated female voice that speaks subtitles in words, and in the UK it is a computer-automated male voice (with a rocking accent). Due to a legal battle, TikTok recently changed its automated female voice to an entirely different, more upbeat “Valley Girl” version that some users are not fans of. This new voice has prompted TikTokers to outsource text-to-speech through other sources like Uberduck.ai and use real life characters and stars like Nicki Minaj and Spongebob Squarepants to sync their videos. If you want to change your text to speech so that the voice is something different, do the following:

How to change text-to-speech functionality in TikTok

  1. Visit the Uberduck.ai website.
  2. Enter the text you want in the Speech to Synthesize field.
  3. Pick a voice.
  4. Download it as an MP3 file.
  5. Upload the MP3 file to any video editing app and align it with the video.
  6. Save it and upload the video to TikTok.

Keep in mind that there are other text-to-speech websites like voicegenerator.io and tts.mp3.com that you can use that do essentially the same thing (they just have different voices) – so don’t be afraid to mess around !
