TikTok star Anthony Barajas dies following taking pictures at California movie show

CORONA, Calif. (AP) – A young man who was life sustaining after he was shot dead in a Southern California movie theater has died, police and his family said on Saturday.

Anthony Barajas, 19, was watching “The Forever Purge” with Rylee Goodrich, 18, in a Corona theater on Monday when they were shot in the head. They were found by an employee after the last demonstration of the evening.

Goodrich died on the scene. Barajas was taken to a nearby hospital where he was given life support.

Police said the shooting was accidental and not provoked. They worked with the Riverside County Attorney’s Office to add a second homicide census against alleged gunman Joseph Jimenez.

Jimenez, 20, appeared in Riverside County Superior Court Friday after being charged with the murder of Goodrich’s death and the attempted murder of Barajas. But he did not make a plea and his indictment was postponed until next week.

Prosecutors had also charged Jimenez with a special lurking circumstance that entitles him to the death penalty if convicted as charged.

Jimenez has been in jail since his arrest. It’s not clear if he hired a lawyer to speak for him.

Barajas was a high school honorary student and had hundreds of thousands of followers on his TikTok social media account, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.

“From his quick smile to his compassionate heart, Anthony’s presence was a gift to everyone who knew him,” his family said in a statement.
