Mothers Are TikTok have become a new escape for those dealing with the struggles of motherhood.

Between feeding, pumping, changing diapers, and napping, new mothers are likely to have only a few minutes to themselves.

I’m lucky when I have 15 to 30 minutes. Of course, I could have used this time to do a lot of laundry, clean something or just take a nap myself. Instead, I usually hop on my phone and watch TikTok videos while my newborn sleeps.

During the chaos of my postpartum life, it was comforting to see other mothers going through the same problems that I face on a daily basis.

From insomnia to hair loss to wearing a diaper that felt like an adult diaper after giving birth. As I saw other mothers normalize these things, I realized that I am not alone.

In an article on OprahDaily.com, author Monica Chon examines how TikTok’s viral mothers are “redefining what it means to be cool”.

“TikTok ushers in a whole new wave of viral motherhood – no filter required,” Chon wrote. “And while TikTok is certainly not the first platform to give the mom community a refreshing – or even satirical – opportunity on the internet, it does provide an easy way for users of all ages to get featured on social media.”

Chon goes on to explain how TikTok created a new outlet for women, especially mothers. “I have super stupid jokes with my mom, but your family doesn’t find you funny? Do you want to make fun of your children’s favorite music? Going crazy in quarantine and needing a creative exit? The possibilities are endless.”

I owe TikTok for helping me with mental breakdowns and the struggles after giving birth. Seeing other mothers going through the same plight, even from afar, helped me prepare for a new day.

With that said, I want to share with you the Tok Moms who helped me maintain my sanity as a young mother.

As a nursing mother, I wanted to know if the things I was going through were completely normal. Of course, I’ve been in constant contact with my lactation advisor, but it has something to do with the fact that other mothers are going through the same battle that has a bigger impact.

In a video by Kelsey Fost (@thekayfost), she explains how magical a woman’s body is when breastfeeding.

“Husbands are like what did you do today? And I’m like I made milk today. Have you ever used homemade ingredients from your body to make milk and feed a person? I don’t think so.”

I came across “5 Weird Things Mothers Do With Babies” on my ‘For You’ feed and it couldn’t have been more specific.

In her video, Ashlay Soto (@ash_lay) makes observations of being a new mom.

Your list:
1) Wearing spit shirts like perfume – after all, they will do it again when it comes to change.
2) Want a break, but don’t really want a break
3) We smell our baby’s buttocks to see if they pooped
4) I always want to smell our baby’s feet
5) Regarding us and our third person husbands, AKA “You want mom to fix this?”

Mom TikTok user @jessica_ann summed up my new beauty routine as a mom.

“I swear to God that if you had told me about 10 years ago that one day I would walk out of the house like this, I would have slapped you in the face. As a parent, you have no time for yourself. I give it to all the mothers over there outside getting ready every day when you have several kids and I have one right now and I’m pregnant and can’t bring myself to get ready. ”

For other ‘Tok Moms’ I recommend the following:
