TikTok is doing a present in regards to the pandemic
For the first time, TikTok is not producing a video, but a show on its platform. “VIRAL” consists of a series of videos to answer questions about the COVID-19 pandemic. Between interviews with experts and explanations from scientists, “VIRAL” is a live event every week that provides TikToker with 45 minutes of information.
A schedule was set. Every Thursday at 6 p.m. Eastern Time in the US, the NowThis account on TikTok will host a real program. Laurel Bristow, a scientist specializing in infectious diseases, will receive experts for 45 minutes to explain, analyze, enlighten or disprove information about the COVID-19 pandemic or the effectiveness of vaccines and many other social network.
A first for TikTok
The platform produced the videos directly with NowThis, an American media group, while providing funding, according to TechCrunch. NowThis media group welcomed the collaboration in a statement.
“With a newsroom that young viewers trust to cover the most pressing issues of the day, NowThis has built its brand as a pioneer on emerging social platforms with coverage that informs and inspires. By partnering with TikTok on this one-of-a-kind live series, viewers will have vital information to help them navigate this challenging and ever-evolving pandemic. “Said NowThis Chief Content Officer Tina Exarhos.
At TikTok, Robbie Levin, manager for media partnerships, was enthusiastic about this project.
“As the world continues to be affected by the pandemic, we want to help our community access up-to-date and accurate information on our app. We are proud to partner with NowThis to share credible insights from public health experts and to empower our community to answer their questions about COVID-19 in real time, ”said an official press release.
Live sessions until May 13th
After the first episode aired on April 15, there are four more 45-minute episodes scheduled on NowThis’ main TikTok account every Thursday through May 13, TechCrunch reported. Each episode is followed by a live Q&A session with users and guests of the day.
According to the report, TikTok can replicate this type of program on its platform if it is successful. JB
