What’s the latest TikTok trend? The social media platform is known for recipe videos and tidbits. But whipped cream is that summer afternoon pick-me-up that you didn’t know you needed before. The quick and easy recipe results in a creamy, flavorful, refreshing treat. If you’ve ever had Chick-fil-A’s frozen lemonade this is so much better. But first, let me explain why my 12 year old niece owes me a lot.
When my 12-year-old TikTok-loving niece, the food writer’s uncle – me – heard about something called whipped lemonade, a new viral drink making the rounds on social media (and others), I asked her immediately after the 411. After two unanswered text messages, I learned that her mother, my sister, had temporarily confiscated her device, as parents do from time to time when they see their eyes glaze over.
But that was important, so she picked up the phone again (Score!) And we marched on to learn more about the sweet and sour frothy drink that is whipped lemonade – loved and shared by every corner of society becomes media verse.

The backstory behind whipped lemonade
Not unlike the native South Korean Dalgona (whipped) coffee Whipped cream, which went extremely viral during quarantine, is a frothy, creamy mix of fresh lemon juice, sweetened condensed milk, whipped cream, and ice cream. I am a Blend-a-holic and this wrinkle-forming drink seemed like a perfect foil for those sticky summer days we find ourselves in.
After crouching over a game plan with my niece, I rushed to the bodega to get the necessary ingredients, all of which are easy to get hold of. I’d seen some dumbfounded versions that used powdered lemonade in place of fresh lemon and condensed milk, but these didn’t sound nearly as appealing. I also made my whipped cream from scratch because it’s pretty basic and, honestly, just doesn’t compare.

The recipe for whipped lemonade
For the basic recipe for whipped lemonade you only need:
- 3 cups of ice
- 2 cups of whipped cream (store bought or homemade)
- 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice
- Vanilla extract (when making whipped cream)
- Granulated sugar or sugar substitute (when making whipped cream)
1. If you’re making your own whipped cream, beat 1 cup of whipped cream (or whipped cream) with a tablespoon of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a cold bowl or cocktail shaker until peaks appear. I used a handheld Milk frother but a hand broom or electric mixer also works. Set aside in the refrigerator.
2. Combine ice cream, condensed milk, fresh lemon juice, and 1 cup of whipped cream in a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy with no pieces of ice left.
3. Pour into a glass and top up with the rest of the whipped cream. Garnish with a lemon wheel.
4th. Lower your sunglasses and enjoy.

My take on whipped lemonade
Honestly, it was fantastic, similar to a lemony piece of cream, and it only took 15 minutes from start to finish (mostly whipping the cream and juicing lemons). I don’t love super cute things, but I love something sour, so I reduced the sugar in my whipped cream and used about 25% less sweetened condensed milk than the recipe I found called for. It was still pretty sweet, but not intrusive. I could – and did – bring this to an end.
I also didn’t squirt vodka, bourbon, or tequila into this whipped lemonade, but there’s no telling what will happen the next time my blender comes out. Fresh or frozen berries would also be a nice addition to this summer-friendly drink.
