Telecom Italia readying reply to antitrust probe on DAZN deal-sources

MILAN (Reuters) – Telecom Italia (TIM) is working on measures it will take to the Italian antitrust agency after the regulator opened an investigation into a deal between the telecommunications giant and sports streaming service DAZN, two sources said to be close to the matter.

TIM’s partnership with DAZN, which won the domestic rights to broadcast the top Italian football matches, has put antitrust regulators to the test, which began investigating the deal that could affect competition earlier this month.

One of the measures TIM plans to propose to allay the regulator’s concerns is a commitment not to bundle its broadband offering with TIM Vision’s pay-TV services, one of the sources said.

TIM signed the DAZN deal as part of a new three-year plan to develop so-called neighboring businesses such as cloud, cybersecurity and pay-TV services.
