Samsung TikTok app for sensible TVs coming quickly to the US

Everyone TV You can buy these days is geared for horizontal “landscape” pictures, but many phone apps work best with vertical pictures, also known as portrait. One of the most popular apps of this type is the TikTok video sharing network, home of Pasta recipes, happy animals and Choice misinformation.
Samsung says most of it 2021 smart TVs will receive a TikTok app in the United States later this year as part of the company’s global partnership with TikTok announced in its Unbox and Discover Event. The app was launched on Samsung TVs in the UK last year. The company says it will move to other markets later in 2021.
Every Samsung TV gets the app, but two models are clearly positioned (pun intended) to take advantage of vertical video. The Sero was introduced in the United States last yearis a television whose screen can actually be rotated from landscape to portrait mode and back thanks to a built-in motor. According to Samsung, TikTok’s video will “fit perfectly” on the TV in portrait orientation. The Sero is available in a size of 43 inches and costs an impressive 1,700 US dollars (1,299 euros, 1,549 AU dollars).

The The Frame, Samsung’s television set to imitate wall artcomes in 32-inch and 43-inch sizes. It can also be set up in portrait format, but without a built-in motor. The 43-inch version is available for pre-order now for USD 1,000 (GBP 599, AU $ 1,399), while the 32-inch model will be available later this year.
The rest of the Samsung TV range has the traditional horizontal orientation. These TVs display TikTok videos with fill bars on either side, as pictured above. Judging by its incarnation in the UK, the Samsung TikTok app is designed for an in-home experience that is divided into 12 categories and includes the most popular content. The TikTok app was used as political football During the 2020 presidential campaign, the Trump administration attempted to force a sale of the company and proposed banning it from app stores. However, this situation has cooled lately. A deal to sell TikTok’s US operations is currently on hold.
Aside from its TikTok announcement, Samsung says the Sero will soon have the ability to work with it Apple’s AirPlay 2 to control the rotation. Simply rotate your iPhone between portrait and landscape and the TV will follow automatically. This function is already available on Android phones broadcast with the Sero.
