Tip #1: Use the timer for hands-free recording
Instead of wasting precious editing time cutting out the part where you press the record button, just use the timer or gesture tool available on Instagram.
With these handy features, you can start recording hands-free without any extra effort. It is a small adjustment that can save you a lot of time in the editing process.
I’ll explain to you how it works.
1. When in Reels, tap the timer button before recording.
2. Then you tap on the amount of time you want, I’ll just leave it at 3 seconds and then tap on “Set timer”.
3. When you start recording your reel, a 3 second timer playback will now play before the camera starts recording.
This gives you room to set up and helps you avoid extra editing at the beginning of your reel.
Some people like the 10 seconds to prep 😉… it’s up to you!
Tip #2 Reels Trends
Now to our second tip “Reels Trends”. Instagram just released an update that brings you inspiration and insights into the app’s popular and trending content at the moment.
This feature provides a central place to find trending audio and hashtags, making it much easier to create engaging reels. We’ll show you where to find it.
1. Go to your profile and look for the “Professional Dashboard” field under your bio. Tap on it.
2. Then scroll all the way down, look for the “Tips and Resources” section and tap on “Roles and Trends”.
3. Here you will see two different tabs: Audio and Hashtags. Under Audio you can see how many times the audio has been used. Tap on it to use it yourself or save it for later. Under Hashtags, you can check trending hashtags for your post descriptions.
This can save you a lot of time scrolling and scrolling to find trending audio content to post. You can go straight to the source from your professional dashboard!
Tip #3: Use the maximum roll length
Let’s come to the third tip: Use the maximum coil length when recording original sound.
Sometimes you’re not sure exactly how long your reel will last, especially if you’re demonstrating a process or interacting directly with your audience. Setting your reel to the maximum time available gives you flexibility.
It also helps you avoid the frustration of having to start over if you slightly exceed the allotted length. It’s about giving yourself some breathing space and avoiding annoying repetition.
Remember, when you’re using Instagram audio, the so-called audio available in the app or from someone else’s reel, the length is often chosen for you. So this is mostly the case when you’re recording from scratch with your own sound, like in a talking head video.
Tip #4: Consistency with text and caption style
Tip number four: Choose a consistent text or caption style and stick with it. We know how tempting it can be to experiment with different text styles and fonts, but constantly changing your approach can eat up a significant chunk of your precious time. Instead, find a style that resonates with your brand and audience and stick with it. This not only saves you time, but also creates a consistent and recognizable appearance that strengthens your brand identity. Consistency is the key!
