Iberia Parish faculties report harm due to TikTok problem

A new TikTok trend is causing damage in the Iberia Parish

The school district says it has looked into this latest TikTok school toilet vandalizing challenge, also known as the “Devious Lick”.

Bathrooms have been damaged at three schools, the district said, with repair costs estimated at around $ 4,800.

Iberia Parish Assistance Superintendent Jennifer Joseph says the school administration is addressing this challenge by doing the following:

  • Announcements of consequences for anyone involved in vandalism
  • Encourage students to say something when they see something
  • A strong message of vandalism will not be tolerated in the form of disciplinary action
  • Estimate the financial loss and let the parents bear the cost of the loss
  • Increased surveillance and monitoring of the toilets, especially during breaks and lunch breaks
  • Limit the number of students who use the bathroom during class.
  • Make sure our video surveillance cameras are working properly in these areas so that they can be used for investigative purposes.

“The district believes that these proactive measures have minimized the risk of damage to school property. In addition, our administrators believe that most of our students are proud of their school campus and do not want anyone to destroy it, nor do they want a part of anything criminal that can have disciplinary consequences. “

In the Lafayette Ward, Southside High School administrators in Youngsville took steps to avoid becoming involved in the controversy. Headmistress Catherine Cassidy sent a voicemail to families after speaking with students last month.

“I announced to students on Friday that we would have zero tolerance and will pursue criminal damages if a student is found stealing something or damaging property,” Cassidy said on the taped message. “I urge you as a parent to have a conversation with your child to reiterate that it is unacceptable to participate in ‘secluded leaks’ on the Southside campus.”

At this point in time there were no notifications of damage. Read this story here.
