The settings of your Instagram ™ business account are so important. You want to protect your account just like any other account you have. That’s why you need to use Instagram ™ 2-factor authentication!
I keep getting instant Instagram ™ messages from people saying, “Sue B, I lost my Instagram account … help!” That’s why I’m going to show you in this blog post how to enable 2-factor authentication and set up other security measures.
Also one of my favorite strategies for saving, not deleting, old content.

What is 2-factor authentication?
2-factor authentication is a security message that asks you to enter a special code or to confirm your login when you or someone else tries to access your account.
While a lot of people put security measures in place on their email or other secure accounts, I am amazed at the number of people who think this is unnecessary for Instagram.
Hackers happen. You never want to take the risk of losing a ton of time trying to recover your account or losing your Instagram ™ account altogether.
How to activate 2-factor authentication
Activating 2-factor authentication only takes a few simple steps. To start with 2-factor authentication, choose either:
- SMS codes from your phone
- Login codes from a third-party authentication app (e.g. Duo Mobile or Google Authenticator)
I prefer to get my notifications right on my phone. So I’m going to show you how to set them up.
First, tap on the three bars in the top right corner of your profile.
Then tap Settings and then Security.
Now tap on 2-Factor Authentication and then on Text Message to set up your SMS notifications.
Once you have confirmed the security code, you are done!
Why Instagram ™ Backup Codes Are So Important
I also strongly recommend saving the information about your backup codes. These are codes that you or your team can use when they can’t access your phone or email.
Once you tap on Security Codes, you will see your list of security codes. Take a screenshot that you can save on your phone or other safe place.
Why You Should Use Instagram ™ Archive
While you don’t have enough Instagram ™ features on your mind, let’s talk about one of my favorite best kept secrets on Instagram ™. Of course I am talking about the archive.
Instead of deleting old posts or unbranded videos, you can store that content in the archive in a private, secure location.
