Patreon launches new creator features including short-form Clips

Patreon launched a major update with 30 new creator features, including the short-form Clips tool, on August 20, 2026. According to company officials, Clips automatically extracts shareable moments from long videos on iOS, allowing creators to distribute them across platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts or publish them as Quips on Patreon.

The Clips feature is currently available only on iOS and is described as being in early access, with Patreon officials indicating that the full release of all related features is not yet guaranteed. To generate Clips, the original files must be at least two minutes long, and auto-generated Clips are only available for posts published after the Clips launch in May 2024; older posts require manual editing to create Clips.

According to Patreon support documentation, Clips automatically generate video previews between 10 seconds and two minutes in length from audio and video posts uploaded via Patreon Video.

Clips can be downloaded and shared off-platform to social media sites such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, or published directly on Patreon as Quips, the platform’s own short-form post format. Quips can host text, images, or videos up to two minutes long, serving as teaser snippets to help creators reach both existing members and potential fans across Patreon’s network, according to company officials. Patreon and third-party coverage from NetInfluencer describe Quips as central to the company’s discovery strategy, allowing creators to share short, free content to improve reach and engagement. Quips are available through the Patreon mobile app and are now being rolled out to creators of adult (18+) content as well, officials confirmed.

The update also includes a comprehensive overhaul of discovery and recommendation tools aimed at increasing visibility for smaller creators. Patreon introduced a new Explore tab that lets fans browse popular categories and find creators based on interests and current memberships. The company reported that creators featured in the Explore tab saw increases in both free and paid memberships during testing phases. Patreon publicly acknowledged a “discovery problem” for small creators and linked the new Clips, Quips, recommendations, and niche community features to addressing this issue, according to statements and reporting from TechCrunch and NewsBytesApp. The company is exploring better optimization of fans’ feeds to improve retention and to encourage the transition from casual followers to paying fans, with discovery currently driving more than $200 million annually to creators, according to Patreon data.

Other new tools introduced in the update include suggested video previews, which automatically select the most engaging moments from paid videos rather than simply using the first 30 seconds, to help convert potential subscribers. Patreon’s support documentation notes that audio and video previews automatically generate Clips and promotional cards that creators can share off-platform to drive traffic back to Patreon posts. The company also launched Autopilot, an automated system that emails free members identified as likely to upgrade, offering discounts on their first paid month to encourage conversion. In addition, a Promotions tab allows creators to set up custom discount codes for digital products, providing more monetization options without requiring constant manual management. Patreon described these features as enabling “hands-free growth,” allowing creators to increase earnings with less extra effort by automating upsell flows and discovery-driven exposure.

The rollout of Clips and certain discovery features is initially limited to creators whose content is categorized as “All Audiences,” with expansion to creators of adult (18+) content planned and partially underway. Patreon officials confirmed that native video and Quips are now being rolled out to adult creators, acknowledging additional trust and safety costs associated with this expansion. For Clips, Patreon’s support guidance specifies that auto-generated Clips are only available for “All Audiences” creators during the initial rollout phase. The company indicated that search and explore improvements will be expanded to adult creators by the end of November 2026, tying the adult-content access to a staged rollout process.

Patreon framed the launch of these 30 new creator features as part of a multi-year product roadmap focused on discovery, short-form content, and creator monetization. Official communications and industry reports underscore that several features—including Clips, niche communities, fan profiles, and quoting tools—are in early testing or early access, with limited availability and iterative development ongoing. Patreon’s own posts and third-party coverage from The Next Web and TechCrunch note that some items may never fully launch, as the company evaluates feedback from creators and fans. The update announcement, published on August 20, 2026, has been widely reported by outlets such as TechCrunch, NetInfluencer, and NewsBytesApp, which consistently describe the update as “30 new creator features, including short-form Clips and revamped discovery.”
