  • 64% of users say they can be their real selves on TikTok.
  • 56% of TikTok users say they can post videos that they wouldn’t post anywhere else.
  • 53% of users state that on TikTok they trust others to be who they are.

When asked how they perceive the content on TikTok, the respondents describe it as: authentic, genuine, unfiltered and future-oriented.

These feelings extend to ads on TikTok as well. Advertising on TikTok is considered real, unique, and fun.

Users say TikTok makes them happy

“An average of 31% of TikTok users named” lifting spirits “as one of the three most common reasons to keep coming back to the TikTok platform.”

Compare that to Facebook, which made the headlines for having a negative mental health impact.

TikTok is unique and different

Users feel like they can go to TikTok and see content they can’t get anywhere else.

While they may see the same content on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, TikTok is a place where they can discover something new.

The study finds:

  • 79% of users find content on TikTok unique or different.
  • 68% of TikTok users find advertising content that is different from other competitive platforms.
  • 60% of users worldwide (excluding the US) say they follow brands on TikTok.
  • 52% of users indicate that they are looking for products or making purchases on the platform.
  • 85% of users discover new content they like about the TikTok platform.

TikTok is a community

One of TikTok’s greatest strengths is the sense of community among its users.

This is shown by the viral challenges in which users participate.

The ability to sample and complement other people’s content also helps users build stronger connections.

The study finds:

  • 59% users feel a sense of community when they are on TikTok.
  • 77% of users say that TikTok is a place where people can express themselves openly.
  • 84% of TikTok users claim to have come across content with which they can identify.
  • 70% of users say TikTok is a platform they would recommend to others.
  • 77% of users say they have read the comments on the posts and videos on TikTok.

In short – TikTok users feel comfortable on the platform and are even happy to talk to each other.

A common theme in these data is positivity. Users enjoy their time on TikTok, they are passionate about the unique content they find, and they feel comfortable expressing themselves with their own content.

All of this helps explain why TikTok is so popular.

Users are even more positive about company and brand content on TikTok compared to other platforms.

This suggests that companies are taking a very different approach to market themselves on TikTok.
