Viral Movies: British man Brenden Man posts TikTok movies about dwelling in Havertown, Delaware

HAVERTOWN, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – A British man who lives in Havertown, Delaware County spreads the word around the world for his “culture shock” videos.

Brenden Guy posts on TikTok about some of the fun differences between living in the US and the UK

In his first “culture shock” video, Guy plays the roles of waiter and customer and is stunned when an American restaurant offers “free” refills.

In another video, he asks for a menu and is given a pile of large folders.

The videos each have up to eight million views.

A few other things he pointed out – long sports games, like baseball games that go into extra innings, fireworks on July 4th – when it’s not July 4th, and strangers saying hello in the street.

In the “voice acting” of the “culture shock” videos, Guy asks for biscuits, which are biscuits in the UK, and looks confused when the server asks if he would like sauce.

Action News spoke to Guy, and he says that one of the reasons that makes Philadelphia feel at home is the architecture.

“Walking down a few streets in the city feels like being in parts of London. It makes sense, given the history between our countries, but it was still a shock to walk down one street and instantly feel like home to feel.” Guy said.

When asked if he felt any “culture shocks” specific to the Philadelphia area, he said “the Delco accent.”

“I moved here four years ago after living in San Francisco for ten years, and I wasn’t expecting to hear a local accent as strong as this,” said Guy. “It was a change for me to be the one who struggled a little to understand people because it’s usually the other way around!”

Guy said he focused on the fun and carefree aspects because he really loves living here.
