TikTok’s Operating Hero, Mrs. House Cadet, Competes in Her First Marathon

Erin Azar, known on TikTok as Mrs. Space Cadet, began documenting her runs two years ago. She invited followers to join her, “a slightly overweight person who drinks too much beer” while training for a marathon. But she didn’t expect millions to answer.

“The first time I posted a run on TikTok, it got over a million views and I thought, ‘This is weird,'” she said. “All I saw on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube were thin runners with really cute outfits and really cute shoes that ran for seven or eight minutes.”

That is not how Azar would describe himself. Instead, the 37-year-old mother of three documented and admitted runs with her loyal “Cheer Squad” (three trees in a row) when she had to pee in the middle of the run, and shared how much she liked what she calls it , fights. barf Hill ”near her house, explaining the awkwardness of passers-by when their pace is at their own.

“I felt like the really curated feeds were keeping people from feeling like they were running or trying to run or exercise in any way,” she said. “That’s why I kept posting.”

On Sunday, Azar shared progress in running the New York City Marathon – her first – with her 688,000 (and growing) followers on TikTok. She posted a video at mile 5 of a bright morning and cheering spectators. “We do it!” She said.

In another post she sings while running on an incline: “Hills don’t care about your feelings”.

But Azar not only logged miles and followers, she used her newfound attention to raise more than $ 73,000 to support the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
