TikTok’s New TV-Connection Possibility Involves US Properties
Get ready to watch more TikTok on a much bigger screen.
Back in December, Samsung announced a new contract with TikTok that enables Samsung Smart TV owners in Europe to watch TikTok clips on their televisions. Now the company has confirmed that the same capacity is coming to the US with most of his 2021 smart TVs Access to the TikTok connected app.
And it won’t just be the latest televisions – the The TikTok app for Samsung TVs is available for all smart TV models manufactured after 2018. It gives you access to your For You and Follow feeds on the big screen. And if you don’t have a TikTok account, you can still view the latest, trending content, which is divided into 12 different categories in the app.
This could open up new display options for TikTok. On the other hand, translation problems can also arise when clips with a small screen are blasted onto large 4K screens. As you can see in the example above, the TikTok video is displayed using a type of vertical letterbox format so that the image is not enlarged or stretched too much. Even so, it will be interesting to see how the clips are translated and whether it’s an equally compelling viewing experience on your home TV.
I mean, that could be a problem in and of itself. If TikTok is just as compelling from the comfort of your couch, a lot more people could fall asleep on the latest trending tracks, with images of people dancing flashing across the room.
Still, it’s an interesting option – and it could also open up new opportunities for TikTok advertisers who, you would guess, may be able to target networked television audiences as a targeting option.
YouTube, which has seen a massive increase in the number of viewers watching content on connected TVs, has already added TV-specific ad options like Masthead Ads to give marketers additional options to maximize reach. The ability to create TV-like ad campaigns with digital ad targeting is a valuable option and could be a worthy consideration for TikTok marketers.
Of course, as noted by Cnet, you can already watch TikTok clips on your TV via Apple Airplay or other connected options. However, the dedicated app could prove to be more compelling, but it could also add extra capacity and potentially help TikTok reach even more users.
