TikTok Predicts Return of 2010 Vogue Tendencies
Always on the pulse of the trend cycle, TikTok predicted that 2010s fashion trends will come back much sooner than you think. The era of the soft grunge Tumblr aesthetic and chunky necklaces is returning to the mainstream platform for users who were initially too young during the first social media boom.
It’s not just Gen Z and Millennials who are pushing for the return of our final golden years. Brands like Givenchy are also taking on nostalgia and reintroducing the peplum silhouette for their Spring / Summer 2022 collection, a red carpet classic loved by Beyoncé, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian in the early 2010s.
Even though it’s only been a decade, in-app trend researchers like Mandy Lee of @oldloserinbrooklyn have predicted that styles like American Apparel’s infamous jewel-colored disco pants, Jeffrey Campbell’s Lita platforms, and DIY accessories like Ke $ ha’s beloved hairspring would be a thing of the past – the TikToker Addison Rae has already done sports – is ready to return with a vengeance.
@Nextwearer’s Hali Brown-Onigbanjo theorizes that the reversal of the trend cycle is due in part to an overwhelming desire to go back to experimenting with fashion and not take it so seriously. Speaking to Vogue, she says, “The 2010s was a really fun and democratizing era of fashion, with the rise of fashion bloggers and It-Girl Tumblr users helping shape a range of ‘aesthetics’.” understand why people who were too young to experience the first time are now trying to experience that energy. ”
Whether you’re a fan of the 2010s aesthetic or not, one thing is for sure – hoard your clothes now and they will come back in style before you know it. Check out some of TikTok’s fashion predictions below.
