A mother was slammed after forcing her son to run in the 104-degree heat as punishment for playing at school and posting a video about it on TikTok.

Katarina Rodriguez told followers that punishment was an alternative form of discipline to hitting – but critics called the clip “traumatizing”.

Rodriguez posted footage of herself walking down a sidewalk with her son, who appears to be panting and out of breath. It is unclear where exactly the footage was taken.

She told the camera, “My five year old doesn’t want to listen in school.

“He makes destructive noises, doesn’t listen, thinks he doesn’t have to settle down when he comes out of the playground.

“And we’ll run. We’re going to run at 104 degrees. ‘

Her son ran beside her when he gasped and appeared to be out of breath

The video showed Rodriguez and her son walking on the sidewalk as she explained his punishment was for playing off at school. Her son can be seen panting and out of breath

Rodriguez continues, “This is the first time we’ve run in school because of his sad faces.

“He thought we’d just run to his mailbox. So he ran. Sprint. Now he’s dying. Will we behave in school? ‘

Her son whimpers at the question as he walks on.

The end of the video swaps back to Rodriguez in her home as she explains her style of discipline.

“We won’t strike. We’re not going to beat up. We will discipline. We’ll see what tomorrow brings, ”she said.

But TikTok users condemned Rodriguez’s punishment.

“God is traumatizing. Punishment for not being able to listen in the classroom. There is obviously something else going on with them, ”one wrote, according to The Daily Dot.

“That’s one way of ruining a healthy relationship with exercise,” said another

Rodriguez later posted a follow-up video to address the criticism and insisted that her son improve his behavior as a result of the punishment.

She said, “I made my child walk because he hates running as a punishment, and if you don’t like it because you think it’s wrong, that’s your opinion.

“If I can scare him that we’re going to run when you’re not having a good day and are respectful and kind and friendly, then so be it.”

She added, “It hits my hand, which is on fire from the panting of his a **.”

Rodriguez also defended her style of discipline, claiming she was trying to make her son a “man”.

“Not that it’s anyone’s business, we’ve tried other disciplinary measures: grounding, taking things away, corners, whatever, and if those things work for your kids, great. Didn’t work for me, ”she added.

The video of Rodriguez’s punishment and its follow-up video have since been removed from her account.
