TikTok is taking down movies of Trump’s speech to U.S. Capitol rioters
As reported by TechCrunch, TikTok is working with Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat to crack down on President Trump and his supporters who broke into the United States Capitol. While that president is not present on the platform, TikTok told TechCrunch that it is actively withdrawing yesterday’s speech to supporters. They also redirect common hashtags used by rioters like #stormthecapitol and #patriotparty to limit their visibility.

The company says the content will be removed because it violates its misinformation policy and “could cause harm to individuals, their community, or the general public”.
TikTok says Trump’s speeches in which the president reiterated allegations of a fraudulent election will be deleted on the grounds that they violated the company’s misinformation policy. This policy defines misinformation as inaccurate or incorrect content. And it explains that while TikTok encourages people to speak respectfully about issues that are important to them, it does not allow misinformation that can harm individuals, their community, or the general public.
However, the app allows users to use the green screen effect to speak out against the actions of the rioters in the Capitol.
However, TikTok says it will allow what it calls “counter-speech” to the Trump videos. This is a form of language often used to combat misinformation, where the creator presents the factual information or denies the claims in another video. TikTok allowed a counter-speech in November in response to claims by Trump supporters that the election had been “rigged” despite blocking top hashtags used to promote the ideas.
A TikTok spokesperson says the company will also remove any accounts found to glorify the violence.
“Hateful behavior and violence have no place on TikTok … Content or accounts intended to incite, glorify, or promote violence are against our community guidelines and will be removed.”
