TikTok Assessments New Choice to Tag Different Profiles in Your Video Clips

TikTok is trying a new way to drive engagement with a new video tagging feature that lets you tag other profiles on your clips.

As you can see in this example posted by social media expert Matt Navarra (via Sam Schmir), the new option is in addition to the existing @mention in post subtitles, which means you can keep your subtitle text free for mentions and still ask other profiles to alert them to your clip.

In that regard, it wouldn’t be a big change functionally, but it would provide a different, more integrated way to link with other YouTubers and / or profiles, which could help promote both your own and other people’s presence – while for brands , it could also be another way to increase community engagement by bringing top backers or creative partners to the attention of your latest uploads and clips.

This could be particularly beneficial here. For example, what if you had a list of TikTok profiles who previously asked questions about one of your products featured in another video, or a question-and-answer session about an upcoming upgrade or feature had? That way, you could mark them up and alert them to those replies or updates, which could help add a more personal touch to your videos.

But again, you can in theory already do so by @mentioning them in the caption, but this could be a better way of tagging relevant people while keeping your caption more general and neat, in addition to highlighting content partners.

In either case, it could be another element to experiment with. TikTok is testing the new option now, with no plans for a full roll out at this point.
