TikTok and rise in tics in teen women: The phenomenon defined.

Episode Notes

Why did so many young women develop tic disorders in the wake of the pandemic? Well, aside from the obvious pandemic-related stressors, TikTok could be a big part of it. On today’s episode, Rachelle and Madison speak to science writer Maddie Bender about their report for Vice that uncovered this medical mystery. They discuss the link between exposure to Tic Tok, a subculture on TikTok where influencers share videos of their tic-related symptoms, and the rise of young women who have developed tic-like behaviors. Although social media could be a trigger for this phenomenon, they will discuss whether TikTok could also be part of the solution.
