Sunday Funday Second: Native nurse practitioner to participate in TikTok’s inaugural ‘Latinx Creators Program’

El Paso, Texas – Hispanic Heritage Month ends Friday, October 15, but popular social media platform TikTok is hoping their platform will fuel the growth of Latinx creators in the market with a new Latinx creatives creator program Will further promote the entertainment sector.

The new program will feature El Paso Nurse Jennifer Armendariz who has decided to use her knowledge as a nurse on social media for the good to educate her followers about health issues.

“I decided one day that I was going to post a video and talk about fatty liver and diabetes and heart disease, and I did,” Armendariz said. “And then I went to bed and when I woke up” the next morning I was like what’s going on? All of these people gave comments and views and it was overwhelming at first. “

One day, while scrolling through TikTok videos, Armendariz came across an ad encouraging Latinas to apply for a new program aimed at helping members of the Latinx entertainment community.

“They said you just have to have one follower on your TikTok page, be Latino or Latina,” said Armendariz. I understood that I was selected. “

Tik Tok has teamed up with Emmy-nominated director, producer, actress, activist and entrepreneur Eva Longoria and her production company UnbeliEVAble entertainment to develop her Latinx creative program.

“It is the first program they have ever done this way, and it is a program that aims to help Latinos expand their knowledge of social media, how they learn about social media, and their platform a variety of backgrounds, ”said Armendariz.

Over 12,000 TikTok users applied, but only 150 Latinx creators were selected. Armendariz is one of them.

“I was very proud to have been selected as a Latina,” said Armendariz.

The 10 week program begins October 12th and Armendariz hopes she can use the knowledge and skills she is learning to represent the El Paso community.

“We want to be represented and we want our kids to see that too and I want the people scrolling their phones to say, hey she looks like me or hey she speaks like me!”
