TV, radio coverage of prohibited organization TLP prohibited

On Thursday, the Pakistani Electronic Media Regulator (PEMRA) banned coverage of the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) by all television and radio licensees.

PEMRA’s announcement was followed by a statement from the Ministry of Interior declaring the TLP a banned terrorist organization and which, during its recent three-day nationwide protests, harmed the country’s peace and security.

PEMRA’s notice states that according to Regulation 18 (h) of the 2012 PEMRA (Television Broadcast Station Operation) Regulation and Article 16 of the 2015 Code of Conduct for Electronic Media, programs must comply with the laws of the country.

“In addition, Article 3 (3) of the 2015 Code of Conduct for Electronic Media prohibits media reporting to banned organizations,” it said.
