Sheriff: A number of unsubstantiated threats made at native colleges utilizing TikTok, Snapchat

Law enforcement agencies in the Steuben district state that they monitor a “pattern of threats” on social media platforms such as TikTok and Snapchat.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, one particular worrying trend is creating fake accounts and copying templates into posts using broadly worded threat language. “Unfortunately, this has happened several times in our region in the past week,” said the sheriff’s office in a press release.

They say the investigation found no credible evidence of threats being made to local schools.

“We continue to take every threat seriously,” officials continued. “And pool resources to underpin their potential credibility. As always, we will take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our students and we will continue to share all possible concerns with our school community. “
