Physician on TikTok weighs in on whether or not carrying socks to mattress makes a distinction
When it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, everyone seems to have a different hack or trick that they swear by and are willing to share.
The latest version made available by a doctor on TikTok is going viral fast, leaving many social media users wondering: will it work for everyone?
Dr. Jess Andrade, DO, a pediatric patient, recently posted a TikTok video talking about wearing socks in bed.
In the short clip, Andrade explains why putting on some socks can help you close that much-needed eye.
“Wearing socks makes your feet warm, and this opens the blood vessels that cool the body,” she said.
“The cool body tells the brain that it is time for bed. In fact, people who wear socks in bed tend to fall asleep faster. “
The video seemed to resonate with TikTok users and was viewed more than 19.7 million times.
But when the third hour of the TODAY crew discussed the matter this morning, co-anchors Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones disagreed on their opinions.
“No, that’s a tough no,” Dylan said when Sheinelle asked if she wore socks in bed.
“Yeah really? Hard yeah. How don’t I know about you?” Sheinelle asked.
“Aren’t you feeling claustrophobic?” Dylan answered.
“No, I’m fine,” Sheinelle explained.
Dylan went on to say that she wears socks all day and doesn’t like walking around her house barefoot. But when the night rolls around, she takes off her socks for bed.

“Even if I put Oliver in footie pajamas, I’ll be stressed because your feet have to breathe,” she said.
Sheinelle understood, but still admitted that she was a bit of a sock in bed.
“For me, I can’t sleep without socks,” she said.
