North Texan ‘Outdated Man Steve’ Turns into TikTok Sensation At 82 – CBS Dallas / Fort Value

TARRANT COUNTY, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Stephen Austin, 82, suddenly became a social media darling.

“I still find it hard to believe. And most of my fans seem to be young people, ”Austin explained.

The Tarrant County man posted funny videos on YouTube and the now-defunct video app Vine.

Then there was a suggestion.

“And my nephew said, Uncle Steve, you should be on TikTok, and I said, okay, I’ll try,” Austin said.

He started using the name “Old Man Steve”.

“I have 1.4 million on TikTok and over 25 million likes on my TikTok videos,” said Austin.

All by posting 30-second to 1-minute videos of him making a sandwich, cereal, or dancing in the kitchen.

“It doesn’t really dance,” laughs Austin.

He does it while mixing in humor and laughter.

“It’s mostly spontaneous. I’m not really planning anything, ”said Austin.

He could hardly have planned the vortex of attention he would receive.

“Who, at my age, would think I would become some kind of celebrity? I mean, I don’t get it … It didn’t change my life. I have no entourage or bodyguard, ”Austin said.

But he does get fan emails and that gives him the purpose of getting in front of the camera.

“Some young people have written to me saying that they were having a really bad day and that when they saw one of my videos they smiled and it changed their day,” Austin said.
