My Trustworthy Assessment Of City Pores and skin Rx’s TikTok-Well-known Cleaning Bar

Almost every melanin-rich person knows the (sometimes harsh) reality of a genetic predisposition to hyperpigmentation and acne scars.

To be clear, acne scars, texture, and pigmentation are perfectly normal and natural – but that’s no longer fun to experience. Though my fear of having to see myself without makeup has faded, my acne scars at thirteen years of age have not.

After battling cystic, acne-prone skin and the associated scars for about a decade, I’ve received years of help from chemical peels, retinol-based serums, and moisturizers containing vitamin C.

The cleaning part of my routine has always been pretty simple. I’m really just looking for something to easily cleanse or remove makeup without irritating my dry, sensitive skin. Thought this is all a cleaner is until I tried the TikTok viral Urban Skin Rx Cleansing Bar ($ 15, Ulta). If the TikTok beauty community was right, the cleansing bar was supposed to balance my skin tone for a more radiant, radiant complexion.

I usually get a little nervous about trying something in the skin care world that is trending. As a South Asian woman, many mass-market lightening products are not tailored to my skin type. But when I saw that almost every review of the TikTok virus cleansing bar was from medium to dark skinned beauty lovers, and Urban Skin Rx’s tagline was “Clinical Skin Care For Various Skin Tones,” I took the chance to try it out.

Here is my honest review:

Urban Skin Rx Even Tone Cleansing Bar

It didn’t rid my dry skin of its natural oils.

As someone with parched, dry skin, I have a hard time finding cleansers that cleanse my skin without drying it out or depriving it of its natural oils. Because this cleaner is in the form of a bar, it doesn’t have many additional ingredients to make it liquid. In fact, two of the bar’s first three ingredients are nourishing coconut oil and moisturizing safflower oil.

I usually have to overcompensate with a strong moisturizer after cleansing. But I didn’t have that squeaky dry feeling at all after using this cleaning bar. My skin felt perfectly hydrated and supple after using it.

My skin glowed after just one application.

I know, I know. You read this thinking that there is no way a skin care product could work after just one application. As a massive skin care cynic myself, I cannot blame you. (But at only $ 15, you don’t have much to lose if you try it out for yourself).

Although I’ve been using this cleanser for a month and have since seen more impressive results in terms of my skin texture and tone, I’ve noticed a huge difference in my skin after just one use. The best part? The radiance (if I may put it that way) that I saw on my skin one morning after the first application lasted all day.

Yes, the change I saw was probably too subtle for anyone else to notice, but I saw fresh acne scars along my jawline completely disappear and then stubborn pigmentation around my mouth instantly lightened. Now that I’ve been using the bar for a month, I’ve seen some extremely stubborn pigmentation (some scars I’ve had for years!) Gone.

The bar was fun and easy to use.

If you’ve already fallen into a TikTok rabbit hole from the myriad of video reviews this bar has received, you’ll know many of them are just from people lathering the actual bar into an extremely satisfying lather. Essentially, the cleaner is formatted in a glass filled with a solid Jell-O-like substance with a circular sponge on top.

You simply run the sponge underwater and then rub it into the solid product to form a foam. That part of the process was so comforting, I’d almost say it was an ASMR-like experience. Then rinse the sponge out. You can even rinse out the solid cleaning stick. (You’re welcome, Germaphobe!).

I use the cleanser twice a day – in the morning for light cleaning and in the evening after removing make-up. I’ve used the Even Tone Cleansing Bar – it’s gentle, effective, and fun for all skin types.

If you have acne prone skin, you should definitely try the Clear Skin Cleansing Bar, which is specially designed to treat acne. If you don’t trust me then check out the thousands of clear skinned TikTokers obsessed with the brand.
