MUNHALL (KDKA) – With a new TikTok challenge causing students to strike school teachers, a local district is sending a message that participating in this trend will result in harsh penalties.
Steel Valley executives addressed the “Smack a Staff Member” challenge that is making waves on TikTok, where students are encouraged to hit a school employee while they are being videotaped.
In a letter to parents and families, District Superintendent Edward Wehrer made it clear that any participation in this challenge will not be tolerated in Steel Valley.
Wehrer wrote that all students who hit an employee face strict school discipline and also face charges of assault.
Parents and families are encouraged by district leaders to speak to the children and let them know that this type of behavior will not be tolerated, and also say that the challenge of making a clear choice between right and wrong must be addressed.
