Melbourne teen banned from Qantas, Virgin, Jetstar after terrorist TikTok ‘joke’
A Melbourne teenager was banned from three airlines after posting a “joke” on a social media platform.
The Australian Federal Police have confirmed the 19-year-old boarded a flight from Melbourne to Queensland last week.
She wrote a “joke” about a terrorist attack on TikTok while boarding the flight.
“The video resulted in multiple calls to the National Security Hotline and a rapid response from AFP, Victoria Police and Queensland Police Service,” the AFP said in a statement.
“Regardless of intent, jokes about a terrorist attack and the safety of the airline are never a laughable matter and can have unintended consequences.”
The 19-year-old was then banned from Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin flights.
TikTok is a video sharing platform that allows users to upload content in genres such as dance and comedy that lasts from three seconds to a minute.
