“It’s like my pores and skin tone!” OU ballet pupil goes viral on TikTok for pointe shoe unboxing video
NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – An OU ballet student went viral on TikTok. Her video, which has been viewed over a million times, captured a special moment for the ballerina: the unboxing of a new pair of pointe shoes made just for her.
“I mean, look at this! Look at that! It’s like my skin tone! It is brown! I can’t wait to wear these, ”OU newcomer Kira Robinson told TikTok. “It’s so exciting because I don’t have to pancake my shoes anymore.”
For the past twelve years, Robinson has wiped her pointe shoes with a primer that matches the color of her skin. The tedious process is the only option for color ballerinas, as pointe shoes were previously only available in pink.
“I think diversity is very important and the ballet world needs to recognize this and move forward and do more to include people of color and, as you know, brown ballet flats,” said Robinson.
“She’s probably one of a kind,” veterinarians say that a six-legged puppy is a miracle
Robinson wanted to share her excitement about the revolutionary moment with the world, but she had no idea what effect it would have.
“I didn’t think it was going to explode,” said Robinson. “I didn’t expect that at all.”

Robinson said her TikTok had a whole new level of attention as she is now often recognized on campus and even on the go. Plus, it has opened up another opportunity with the Suffolk brand that created the pointe shoes.
“We’re planning a photo shoot together,” said Robinson. “Yes, I am very happy about it because I love Suffolk. I love the company. They are really great and they are really great people too. “
