In this blog post:

# 1 Should you save your Instagram ™ Live on IGTV?

As people continue to demand unfiltered, authentic content, Instagram ™ Live has become an increasingly important way to connect with your Instagram ™ followers.

However, with the latest Instagram ™ Live update, your broadcast doesn’t have to go away after 24 hours. Instead, you can Save your Instagram ™ life as part of your IGTV channel.

Now does this mean you should save all of your live broadcasts? Not exactly. There are four things to consider before saving an Instagram ™ Live to your IGTV channel:

  • Would you like the content to be saved in your feed?
  • Does your Instagram Live match the aesthetics of your feed?
  • Is Your Live Content Amazing?
  • Does your show contain a guest?

Bottom line: be intentional on the Instagram ™ Live broadcasts that you want to add to your IGTV channel. Not every broadcast needs to be saved.

# 2 steps you need to take before going live

Unfiltered does not mean unprepared. Here are the three things my team and I always do to prepare before we go live:

Schedule content in advance

My team and I plan a tight script that covers the show from start to finish. The less you fumble around, the more polished your show will seem to the people who tune in. Also, creating a script ensures that the first few words out of your mouth are the subject of your video.

Have a cover photo ready

It’s also important to make sure that the cover photo of your live broadcast matches your feed aesthetic. Instead of choosing a still image from your video, I recommend designing one Brand graphics in advance that you can save in your camera roll.

Plan for strong IGTV lettering

One of biggest mistake People who do live descriptions on their Instagram forget to add a strong call to action. Don’t let people guess what to ask of them. Instead, check the beginning of the description.

# 3 How to Save an Instagram ™ Live Broadcast on IGTV

Now that we’ve covered the question of when to add an Instagram ™ Live to IGTV and how to schedule your show, here’s how to share a show on your IGTV channel.

When you’re ready to end your Instagram ™ Live broadcast, simply tap End in the top right corner.

You will now see some options. You can share, download, or delete your video on IGTV. I always recommend downloading your video so that you can Add captions.

Once you’ve decided to add your show to IGTV, you can choose the cover image. Sometimes it can take a while for the cover photo to be filled in by your camera roll. Don’t worry if your cover photo doesn’t show up right away.

Another thing to keep in mind is audience retention. The longer your Instagram Live broadcast, the more likely it is for people to fall away. Make your value clear from the start to keep audience loyalty high.

However, it’s not the only way to get the value of your show clear to drive more views. You can also take advantage of the fear of missing out, also known as FOMO.

My weekly Monday broadcasts usually last between 45 and 60 minutes and I never save them on my IGTV channel. Instead, I’m building a hype with FOMO so that viewers can tune in. My followers know this is their only chance to see this show.

# 4 My final tip

That brings us to mine last Instagram ™ Live tip. Don’t fumble around the end of your video! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a great show just for the person to finish the video and desperately look for the end button.

Take a breath and remember that the end button is always in the top right corner. You want to avoid the last still frame of your video being desperate to stop the transfer. Instead, always try to end your video with an inviting smile.
