I want to tell you a great secret. Your Instagram ™ usage will explode with this Instagram ™ Stories tip: use subtitles and captions for your stories. It’s worth it!
Keep reading this blog post to learn why using closed captioning is a win with the Instagram ™ algorithm and the two transcription apps that will save you tons of time.

Instagram ™ Stories Tip: Why Use Subtitles
Subtitles are still one of the best ways to encourage people to follow your Instagram ™ stories until the end, even when they are silent looking. In fact, 85% of people want Instagram to be silent!
That said, if you don’t use closed captions, also known as subtitles, you’re missing out on a lot of people. No matter where or how people see your stories, you want them to know exactly what you are talking about.
Whether you want to capture every word or share a summary, Instagram ™ captions give people a reason to stick with them. As more people see your Instagram ™ stories, you will get more views and a big win with that Instagram ™ algorithm.
Now let’s talk about two apps that make adding subtitles easier.
Instagram ™ Subtitle App: Themes
Worried that trying to capture every word for your Instagram ™ Story will take way too long? It’s easy with the Instagram ™ Threads app.
Instead of trying to type in every word you say, the Instagram ™ Threads app will automatically label your video. You can even add subtitles to a recorded video. Once Instagram ™ Threads has transcribed your video, you can edit your caption and download your new video.
Instagram ™ Subtitle App: Kapwing
Another Instagram ™ captioning app that I love is Kapwing. In contrast to the Instagram ™ Threads app, Kapwing is a website for creating content.
While the Instagram ™ Threads app labels your video with uniform white, bold text, Kapwing offers you various options for adapting your labels. From choosing your brand’s hex colors to adjusting the opacity, you can make sure your subtitles match your Instagram ™ aesthetic.
So choose between threads and kapwing
Here’s the big question you’re probably asking yourself, “Sue, what subtitling tool should I use?”
Ultimately, both apps have a lot to offer and are easy to use. But this is how I cook it:
- Instagram ™ Threads App = Good for short videos (less than 15 seconds)
- Kapwing = good for longer videos
Even if you choose not to cover every word, perhaps because you don’t have the time, writing down your main points is also an effective strategy for keeping people informed.
They create epic content and add subtitles to make sure you get as many views as possible.
Examples of Instagram ™ accounts with subtitles
Whether you’re using the Instagram ™ Threads app, Kapwing, or just your key points, it’s always worth adding subtitles.
For example, Jenn, who specializes in local business marketing, always makes a habit of adding captions to their stories using the Instagram ™ Threads app. Even if she doesn’t add any other creative Instagram ™ elements, it is always clear what Jenn’s story is focusing on since she uses closed captions.
Another Instagram ™ account that does a great job of adding subtitles is Essentially Lucy. Although she doesn’t use a closed captioning app, Lucy always takes the time to type what she says. It may take a little longer, but it’s worth making sure your followers are always aware of the subject of their story.
The last Instagram ™ account that does a great job of adding subtitles is Beatrice, an abstract artist. While she doesn’t type every word, Beatrice does a great job using the text tool to summarize her Instagram ™ story.
