Hartford Hawks Athletics – Lucas’ 14 Factors Leads Hartford Previous New Hampshire, 64-57

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior Guard Jada Lucas led the Hawks with 14 points when the Hartford women’s basketball team beat New Hampshire (64:57) in the Imperial Family Pavilion on Tuesday afternoon to secure the season over the Wildcats.

With the win, the Hawks improved to 2-2 in the season and in East America, while the Wildcats fell to 6-1 in the season and 3-1 in the conference game.

HARTFORD 64, NEW HAMPSHIRE 57
Hartford was 8-7 behind in the middle of the first quarter and ended the period with an 11-3 run driven by two three-pointers from Jada Lucas to take the 18-11 lead. The Hawks’ hot start continued into the second quarter, increasing the lead to 24-11 after two consecutive three-points from Jordan McLeMore and Abby Streeter : 45 to be shortened to 26: 22. The Hawks unshakably used the 5:21 of the last half to beat the Wildcats with 11: 5 and led into the break with 37:27.

Hartford prevailed 8-3 against New Hampshire and increased the lead to 15 points. 4:33 took the lead in this quarter, the largest of the game. However, the Wildcats used the last 3:43 of the quarter to start a 12-5 run and shorten the Hawks’ lead to 50:42.

New Hampshire kept going, opening the fourth with an 8-2 run to reduce Hartford’s lead to 52:50. 5:44 stayed in regulation. Marisa Lee hit by contact on a put-back and hit the following free throw to halt the Hartford drought. The Hawks lead increased to 55-50 at 4:50. New Hampshire were able to take it to 56-55 at 2:33, but the Hawks were able to take eight free throws in the 2:14 final to hold on to the 64-57 win.
